yesterday I picked my way along the shore and some shape released a memory of you dying out of nowhere the dark waters tugged I felt the colossal heave that carried you away the infinity of your shipwreck yawned among the commonplace of an ordinary day and I remembered how your body looked carved by its crossing of an ocean then tossed up as driftwood weightless, bleached today the waves brought fresh wreckage further up the beach and took away what they yesterday revealed |
